Qu
Mu Monastery is located at the remote
outskirt area of China Sichuan Rang Ding, Wa
Za Village. It takes 6 hours journey from
Kang Ding to reach the mountain top where the monastery is located. The
monastery isa bout 4720m above sea level . During summer, at noon time, the
temperature is only about 1 5 degree. And go to as low as sub zero
temperature during winter.
The journey up the mountain is dangerous because it does not have proper
road. To travel by off- road vehicle from the foot of the mountain to
the monastery is about 1 hour. There is no electricity and tap water,
the only source of water for them is from the mountain stream. Mobile
phones has no signal and the nearest place
for a signal is about 2 hours journey away. The monastery is totally
insolated from the outside world, due to this factor. It is a perfect
place for studying and practicing Buddhism.
The monastery has a history of about 900 years old and has about 100
Lamas and Khenpo. The monastery conduct Puja and prayers regularly and
the only devotees are from the villagers near the monastery.
Inside the monastery, there were two halls where Puja (chanting) can be
conducted. Outside the haII, there was a
small open field where the Lamas can gather together for outdoor Puja.
For visitors, there was a small room with about 9 beds. Sengge Rinpoche
welcomes all visitors to stay in for retreat and for visiting. The
monastery do not have toilet facilities and
you will have to bring your own food if you are going there.
In 2002, the restoration of the monastery started,
the restoration which includes building a small Buddhism Boarding School
with facilities of 72 rooms, tables, beds and chairs. The restoration is
70% complete with the help of many fellow
Buddhist in Singapore, Taiwan and China. The total restoration cost
is about 700000RMB(about US$85,000). Because of
the economic downturn in Asia, the Buddhism Boarding School was not able
to complete due to lack of donations.
